In 2023, the decision to permanently station a German brigade in Lithuania marked a significant step in addressing Russia’s aggressive posture. With the 45 Armoured Brigade, Germany is reaffirming its commitment to the defense of NATO’s Eastern flank. This roundtable aims to engage in a dialogue on the significance of the Bundeswehr’s presence in Lithuania and Germany’s role in the collective defense of the Alliance, together with students and young professionals, as well as parliamentarians, military representatives, and experts from both Germany and abroad.
The discussion will begin with opening statements from Giedrius Puodžiūnas, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Germany, and Dr. Kai-Olaf Lang, Senior Fellow at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP). A representative from the German Federal Ministry of Defence will also provide an introductory impulse. The roundtable will be moderated by Mariam Kublashvili, Vice President of YATA Germany.
Following the discussion, a reception will be held to provide opportunities for networking and further exchange.
