Ivo H. Daalder ist Präsident des Chicago Council on global Affairs. Bevor er dem Rat im Juli 2013 beitrat, diente er mehr als vier Jahre lang als US-Botschafter bei der NATO. Von 1995-97 gehörte er auch dem Stab des Nationalen Sicherheitsrates der USA als Direktor für europäische Angelegenheiten an. Vor seiner Ernennung zum Botschafter bei der NATO durch Präsident Obama im Jahr 2009 war Daalder ein hochrangiger Fellow in außenpolitischen Studien an der Brookings Institution, wo er sich auf amerikanische Außenpolitik, europäische Sicherheit und transatlantische Beziehungen sowie nationale Sicherheitsangelegenheiten spezialisierte. Für seine Verdienste bei der NATO wurde Botschafter Daalder mit der Medaille des US-Verteidigungsministeriums für hervorragende Leistungen im öffentlichen Dienst, dem Verdienstorden der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, dem Orden des Terra-Marianen-Kreuzes der Republik Estland und dem Orden mit dem Drei-Sterne-Orden der Republik Lettland ausgezeichnet. Er wurde an den Universitäten von Kent und Oxford sowie an der Georgetown University ausgebildet und promovierte in Politikwissenschaft am Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Darüber hinaus erhielt er den Ehrendoktortitel in Zivilrecht von der Universität Kent.

Ivo H. Daalder is President of the Chicago Council on global Affairs. Before joining the Council in July 2013, he served as U.S. Ambassador to NATO for more than four years. From 1995-97 he also served on the staff of the U.S. National Security Council as Director of European Affairs. Prior to his appointment as Ambassador to NATO by President Obama in 2009, Daalder was a senior fellow in foreign policy studies at the Brookings Institution, where he specialized in U.S. foreign policy, European security and transatlantic relations, and national security issues. In recognition of his services to NATO, Ambassador Daalder has been awarded the U.S. Department of Defense Medal of Civil Service Excellence, the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Order of the Terra Mariana Cross of the Republic of Estonia and the Order of the Three Star Order of the Republic of Latvia. He was educated at the Universities of Kent and Oxford and Georgetown University and received his PhD in political science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He also received an honorary doctorate in civil law from the University of Kent.
