Gunnar Wiegand war bis vor kurzem Abteilungsleiter Asien-Pazifik im Europäischen Auswärtigen Dienst (2016–2023) und zuvor Direktor für Osteuropa, Zentralasien und die OSZE im EAD. Er verfügt über langjährige Erfahrung in den EU-Außenbeziehungen und war seit 1990 bei der Europäischen Kommission tätig. Darüber hinaus ist er Gastprofessor am Europakolleg in Brügge, an der Paris School of International Affairs und Visiting Distinguished Fellow des German Marshall Fund im Rahmen des Indo-Pacific Program.

Gunnar Wiegand was, until recently, the former EU Managing Director Asia Pacific at the European External Action Service (2016-2023), having previously served as the Director for Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the OSCE at the EEAS (2011-2015). Prior to these roles, he held various positions in external relations at the European Commission since 1990. He also serves as a Visiting Professor at the College of Europe in Bruges and the Paris School of International Affairs and holds the position of Visiting Distinguished Fellow at the German Marshall Fund (Indo-Pacific Program).
