Botschafter Ekkehard Brose begann seine Karriere 1976 als Soldat auf Zeit, bevor er 1978 seine Studien der Volkswirtschaftslehre, Politik, Philosophie und Internationalen Beziehungen in Köln und als Rhodes Stipendiat an der Universität Oxford aufnahm. Anschließend wurde er Referent für Abrüstung und Rüstungskontrolle im Auswärtigen Amt und im Leitungsbereich der Deutschen Botschaften in Moskau und Washington, bevor er 1996 stellvertretender Büroleiter des Generalsekretärs der NATO in Brüssel wurde. Auf seinen Stationen als Wirtschaftsgesandter an der dt. Botschaft Moskau, Unterabteilungsleiter der Europaabteilung des Auswärtigen Amtes, Referatsleiter Sicherheitspolitik in der Politischen Abteilung des Auswärtigen Amtes, als Referatsleiter in der Europaabteilung des Auswärtigen Amtes und als Gesandter der Ständigen Vertretung der BRD bei der NATO, konnte Brose einiges an diplomatischer Praxis sammeln, bevor er 2014 zum Botschafter in der Republik Irak ernannt wurde. Nach seiner Zeit als Beauftragter für Zivile Krisenprävention und Stabilisierung im Auswärtigen Amt, ist der Botschafter seit Oktober 2019 Präsident der Bundesakademie für Sicherheitspolitik.

Ambassador Ekkehard Brose began his career as a regular soldier in 1976 before he began his studies of economics, politics, philosophy and international relations in Cologne in 1978 and as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University. He then became an advisor for disarmament and arms control at the German Foreign Office and in the management section of the German embassies in Moscow and Washington, before becoming Deputy Head of the Office of the NATO Secretary General in Brussels in 1996. In his positions as economic envoy at the German Embassy in Moscow, sub-departmental head of the European Department of the German Foreign Office, head of the security policy division in the Political Department of the Foreign Office, head of division in the European Department of the Foreign Office and as envoy of the Permanent Representation of the Federal Republic of Germany to NATO, Brose was able to gather quite a bit of diplomatic practice before he was appointed ambassador to the Republic of Iraq in 2014. Following his time as Commissioner for Civilian Crisis Prevention and Stabilization at the German Foreign Office, the ambassador has been the President of the Federal Academy for Security Policy since October 2019.
