Prof. Dr. Daniela Schwarzer leitet die Open Society Foundations in Europa und Eurasien und ist Honorarprofessorin für Politikwissenschaft an der Freien Universität Berlin sowie Senior Fellow am Belfer Center der Harvard Kennedy School. Seit 2020 ist Daniela Schwarzer zudem Sonderberaterin des Hohen Vertreters der Europäischen Kommission, Josep Borrell. Sie berät regelmäßig nationale Regierungen in Europafragen. Von 2016-2021 war sie Direktorin und Geschäftsführerin der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Auswärtige Politik, deren strategische und inhaltliche Neuaufstellung sie verantwortete. Davor wirkte sie als Forschungsdirektorin im Vorstand des German Marshall Fund of the United States und leitete zudem sein Berliner Büro und Europaprogramm. Zuvor war sie acht Jahre bei der Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik, wo sie von 2008 bis 2013 die Forschungsgruppe Europäische Integration leitete und Leitartiklerin und Frankreichkorrespondentin der Financial Times Deutschland. Zu ihren jüngsten Veröffentlichungen gehört: Final Call. Wie Europa sich zwischen den USA und China behaupten kann, Campus Verlag, 2021.

Prof. Dr. Daniela Schwarzer directs the Open Society Foundations in Europe and Eurasia and is Honorary Professor of Political Science at Freie Universität Berlin and Senior Fellow at the Belfer Center of the Harvard Kennedy School. Since 2020, Daniela Schwarzer has also served as Special Advisor to the High Representative of the European Commission, Josep Borrell. She regularly advises national governments on European issues. From 2016-2021, she was Director and CEO of the German Council on Foreign Relations, where she was responsible for its strategic and substantive reorganization. Before she served as research director on the board of the German Marshall Fund of the United States and also headed its Berlin office and Europe program. Prior to that, she spent eight years at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs, where she headed the European Integration Research Group from 2008 to 2013, and was a senior journalist and France correspondent for the Financial Times Deutschland.
